THE GREEK WOMEN OF WINE ELECTED TO THE PRESIDENCY OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATED WOMEN IN WINE

7th General Assembly of International Associated Women of Wine in Spain - Madrid

 

The eighth congress and seventh General Assembly of the International Associated Women of Wine was held in Spain, in Madrid, from Wednesday 13th to Saturday 16th January 2010 and was considered to be a great success by all attending.

The organization of the congress was undertaken by the hosts, the women of wine in Spain - Amavi.    Amavi welcomed to their country representatives from all member countries of the International Associated Women of Wine and had arranged a full programme of meetings, wine tastings, with wine from all member countries, and visits to wineries in the Ribera del Duero region.

During the congress in Madrid elections were held for the new International Board of Directors.  Greece, who was represented by the president of the professional organization Greek Women of Wine Mary-Irene Triantafillou Pitsaki, stood for the position of president and was successfully elected.  This gives Greece the presidency of the International Associated Women in Wine for the next three years (I.A.W.I.W. - www.iawiw.com - contact@iawiw.com ).

The new Board of Directors is as follows:

  • Greece: Greek Women of Wine, Chairman. Greece will be represented by Liza Vintzilaiou, Mary-Irene Triantafillou Pitsaki and Anne Kokotos.
  • Italy: Le Donne del Vino, Vice-Chairman. Represented by Tiziana Mory.
  • Spain: Amavi, Secretary.  Represented by Sonia De Galimberti.
  • Germany: Vinissima, Treasurer. Represented by Sabina Mosbacher.
  • Switzerland: Les Artisanes de la Vigne et du Vin, Communication Officer. Represented by Coraline de Wurstemberger.
  • France: Les Aliénor du Vin de Bordeaux,  Member. Represented by Laurence Lataste
  • Hungary: The Loantffy Zsuzsanna Wine Society,  Member. Represented by Krisztina Sajgó.

During the congress a presentation and tasting of wines from each member country was held at the Intercontinental hotel in Madrid. The delegates also visited two wineries in the Ribera Del Duero region, Vega Sicilia and Condado de Haza (Grupo Pesquera) where they were welcomed by the wine producer, Alejandro Fernádez.
